My Greatest Blessing By Patricia B. Ouellette
There was a time I had given up hope
Of ever holding my own child
We tried everything known to medicine
To create that little blessing
To fill our home
But God had other plans it seems
And a child I would not bear
My heart screamed out with pain
A longing that would forever be.
Then one day the telephone rang
The welfare had a request
We were asked to take in a child
A
little baby who was loved
Alas her mother very ill
A sickness with alcohol and drugs
This little tiny infant all of nine weeks old
Was placed into my arms
Her little hands clasped on my finger
Her smile was bright as day
She looked at me
Her tiny eyes full of trust
This child was to be ours
For only a short while
But the law of the land had intervened
And told us she was ours
With love we nurtured and reared her
Giving her a sound foundation
She was a very sick tiny babe
Her needs were in high demand
But even in tired despair
We loved her and gave our all
Little did the courts know?
They played the hand of God.
She was born with a hole in the heart
The doctors fixed all that
Her arms deformed from alcohol
No one could notice though
She went through quite a bit
This little girl of ours
But soon she gained in strength
And grew and grew and grew
She has the most marvelous attitude
For one so young and fair
She handle our divorce
As though she didn’t care
Her love has never changed
She is forever loving and forgiving
Even when he doesn’t call
She knows she is loved
She says that’s all that matters
I know inside it does
Now she is ten years old
Her smile is still as bright as the sun
Her laughter as joyful as a song
Her love is ever fulfilling
Her nature true and giving
She is proud to say
I have three Dads
And three mums as well
Then she looks up to the skies
And says I have Jesus with me too
Then smiles her lovely smile
And gives a great big hug
She is my little blessing
A wondrous miracle of God’s
And not a day goes by that I don’t say
Thank you Lord for my child.
