Thankful For My Memories

By Marygold aged 15

Remember when:
The lights went out during a thunderstorm
And we’d gather together to keep us warm.
Our candles made the room aglow
As we took our turns with a shadow show.

 Remember when:
The day had passed and t’was time for bed.
I lay impatiently, resting my head.
And finally I noticed the creek of the door.
You prayed over me, I lay awake no more.

 Remember when:
The news foreshadowed a star shower.
You let me stay up past the hour.
We stayed up together to watch them shine.
The memory is still in this heart of mine.

Remember when:
Watching our shows made me a princess,
Relaxing to forget your big day of stress.
You’d curl up your legs and I’d sit inside
In my own little castle I could hide.

 Remember when:
Our lives changed drastically
and I never knew
That through these years I’d be missing you.
I cherish the times we’ve had in the past
When again, we’re together I want it to last.

This Thanksgiving I want you to see
I thank God for the times that were given to me.
I wish I had known all of this before,
I would have remembered even more.
