Forgiveness

Part 1

One of the greatest gifts God ever gave people, is forgiveness. The power, the ability and the need for forgiveness are important to all of us. In the bible there are many lessons on forgiveness. Many great and wonderful stories are told. But it is sometimes very hard to forgive someone who hurts you. We all have been in that situation. Let's see if we can help you understand! 

We all have seen or felt what it is like to be bullied at school. It isn't nice. It hurts really bad, doesn't it? There are a lot of bullies in the world. The worst ones are at school. I bet you agree with me there don't you? And, I bet you kids didn't know that big people, (adults), get bullied too! Yep everyone has been or gets bullied at some time in their life.

The bible teaches us to turn the other cheek.

"The law of Moses says, 'If a man gouges out another's eye, he must pay with his own eye. If a tooth gets knocked out, knock out the tooth of the one who did it. But I say: Don't resist violence! If you are slapped on one cheek, turn the other too. If you are ordered to court, and your shirt is taken from you, give your coat too. If the military demand that you carry their gear for a mile, carry it two. Give to those who ask, don't turn away from those who want to borrow.

What Jesus means by turning the other cheek, is you have to ignore it, or just say, "I forgive you!" and walk away. Now that is not easy to do! If someone hurts you, you want to fight back or run home and tell Mommy or Daddy. Then the bully will say you are a baby because you ran to Mom and Dad. Just remember if someone does hurt you, you are not a baby for going to Mom and Dad. You should go and tell them, because if you don't, how are they to know. How are they going to be able to help you, if you don't tell them.  It is a wise and brave person who asks for help. A silly and foolish person does not ask for help.
